About the Library
Mission Statement
The mission of the Decatur Public Library is to enhance the quality of life for all persons of the community by promoting the use of the library and assembling and administering an organized collection of books, reference materials and related educational materials in order to educate, entertain and enlighten patrons.
Primary Roles

Reference Library: The library actively provides timely, accurate, and useful information for community residents.

Popular Materials Library: The library features current high-demand, high-interest materials in a variety of formats for persons of all
ages.

Independent Learning Center: The library supports individuals of all ages in pursuing a sustained program of learning, independent of any educational provider
Secondary Roles

Preschoolers Door to Learning: The library encourages young children to develop an interest in reading and learning through services for children, and for parents and children together.

Community Information Center: The library is a clearinghouse for current information on community organizations, issues, and services.

Formal Education Support Center: The library assists students of all ages in meeting educational objectives established during their formal courses of study.
